The Ledger of Lies — Chapter 3
The second body was found in the greenhouse, and this time there was no locked door to explain — only a single, deliberate detail that told the detective everything the first crime scene hadn’t: whoever had done this wanted her to understand it was the same person, and wanted her to know they weren’t finished.
She gathered the six remaining heirs into the drawing room and did something she rarely did this early in an investigation. She told them exactly what she knew, out loud, in front of all of them — and watched, very carefully, to see whose face stopped being afraid.
